Overreaction Monday ft. Michael Vaughan’s comment, Bangladesh cricket’s reality and ISL referees
By admin | | 0 Comments |

India on the brink of a possible Test victory at the Chepauk, with Indian batsmen set to take an insurmountable lead - Monday morning's script couldn't have been better. But, to make it more interesting, we have compiled a few issues which have been a talk of the town in the past week.Michael Vaughan faces the heatOn Sunday, former England skipper Michael Vaughan stated that the Chennai pitch isn’t fit for Test cricket and called it a beach in the grab of a cricket ground.SC Take: You cannot ignore Michael Vaughan, can you? Waking up to a horrific batting performance by England did not cheer up the former skipper, although he did decide to justify the debacle over breakfast. What better way to divert the failure than to put the blame directly on the pitch, which according to Vaughan was a ‘shocker’ and an ‘unprepared one’ and a 'beach'. Albeit not even a soul was nearby to point out to him that India had actually scored 329 runs on the same pitch a day earlier, with the Englishman even taking to Twitter to laud the efforts of Rohit Sharma’s brilliant century. Indian fans took the privilege of taking a dig at the former cricketer on a cozy Sunday.Even if that comment backfired, he could have abstained further embarrassment by not playing the ‘produce whatever you want at home to gain an advantage’ card. It drew immediate attention from one of the greatest spinners - Shane Warne, who refuted the statement. Maybe, Vaughan could have peeped at the scorecard of the second Test during India’s tour of England, in 2018. James Anderson and Stuart Broad made merry on the ‘green top’. Was Michael Vaughan’s Twitter handle deactivated back then?Monty Panesar needs to do homework before making commentsIf the Indian lose the second Test, it would be the end of Virat Kohli’s captaincy, claims Monty Panesar.SC Take: To put things into perspective, there hasn't been a complete batsman other than Kohli in the modern era, while his extraordinary stats have set our expectations sky-high. He also boasts of maintaining a stupendous record as a captain, especially in Tests, currently the most successful for India, with 33 wins in 58 Test matches. Former cricketer Monty Panesar felt that Virat Kohli should be axed from his leadership duties if India lost the second Test in the ongoing series against England after the Indian lost just the 2nd Test of his career as a captain at home. Ridiculous, isn’t it?Agreed, that Ajinkya Rahane is back from a historic Test series win as skipper from Australia, but we cannot deny the facts. Australia were the last team to achieve the feat when Steve O’Keefe bagged 12 wickets to tumble the hosts on a tricky Pune pitch. India’s dominance at home can only be compared to Steve Waugh’s unit, which was hardly unhurt at home during the early 2000s. Detractors will justify themselves from all corners, but we need to learn to defend the man who has overseen the cricket team to grow as an unstoppable force. It's time Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) accepts the realityNazmul Hassan slammed Bangladesh captain and coach over team selection after the team lost its second consecutive Test to Bangladesh to concede the series.SC Take: Bangladesh’s policy of churning out positive results by preparing spin-friendly wickets at home, is well documented in the past, but what they haven’t realised is the fact that away teams have now prepared a blueprint to break the code. The recent loss to a second-string West Indies side is evident how their successful strategy has backfired. But, why is the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan complaining over poor team selection, having lashed out at their captain and coach? This was coming and Bangladesh cannot pretend that they weren't aware of it. Bangladesh have failed to mature as a Test-playing nation. Period. While they have improved leaps and bounds in limited-overs cricket, the longer format doesn’t seem to attract them too much. The domestic structure breathes on limited-overs leagues like the Dhaka Premier League and the Bangladesh Premier League, while a similar effort is missing in the National Cricket League - the breeding ground for the longer format. There’s no escape from reality until the above-mentioned gap is bridged. Referees are humans, they have flesh and bloodSC East Bengal officials continue to crib regarding the quality of refereeing.SC Take: We can’t deny that poor refereeing has been the hallmark of the ongoing Indian Super League, with the officials often finding themselves under the scanner. But, the repercussions have been abnormal, to say the least, with the coaches stooping low to an unbearable level to voice their protests. SC East Bengal was denied a genuine penalty during their game against Hyderabad FC, earlier this week, which evidently flooded the social media with hate messages from the fanatics. As keen followers of the beautiful game, we should take into account that we are not privileged enough to have Video Assistant Referee (VAR) nor that humans tend to make mistakes. What’s more unfortunate is the way high-profile coaches have reacted to the same, with Robbie Fowler handed a five-match ban for racist comments, while Stuart Baxter got himself sacked by Odisha FC over sexual violent remarks made a few days back. No wonder we are going to face such issues until VAR is introduced in the ISL. Even Arsenal’s David Luiz was sent off in a bizarre way, but their rage was limited to a decent level. Yes, Indian football needs to grow a lot.Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | You have to keep your intent up and be proactive, proclaims Rohit Sharma
By admin | | 0 Comments |

India's centurion on day one of the second Test in Chennai, Rohit Sharma stated that on pitches like today the intent has to be up there. He also added that the team trained extensively on how to use feet more and play sweeps as there was need to be more proactive on such kind of tracks. India's under-fire opener Rohit Sharma played one life-time of a knock to score 161 on a turner on day one of the second Test at Chepauk amid the return of crowd as India ended the day on 300/6. There was plenty of assistance for spinners as the ball was exploding a lot of times after hitting the surface which made it a tricky surface to bat. But the Indian opener batted in his own way as he took the attack to the English bowlers especially pacers against whom he scored at a great rate.He didn't even leave spinners as he attacked them when needed while he played with patience as and when the situation required. At the end of the day, the right-hander stated that he was just playing the ball on 'merit' and also admitted that there is a need for 'intent' on such wickets while being practice.  “I was just playing to the merit of the ball, I didn’t play many cross-batted shots. You have to keep your intent up there, you have to be more proactive every delivery. I’m not going to rate any of my knocks, every one of it comes under different circumstances. I’m not a person to rate any of my knocks. I’m happy with the fact that I could help the team get to a respectable position. It was important for us to bat as deep and as long as possible,” Rohit stated in the press conference at the close of day one. One of the hallmarks of Rohit's knock was how well he used his feet against the slower bowlers and that is something that the team trained extensively, revealed India's white-ball vice-captain. "Yeah look, we knew about these conditions and the pitch. We were aware that it was going to turn, we trained accordingly to the match situation. So basically, using your feet more often and sweeping was what we trained for. We have to be more proactive than reactive on these pitches. It was important to be on the top of the bowler in these pitches. Also, it is crucial to understand how the ball is turning, the bounce and everything. That was my decision making going into a shot. The preparation really helped me in terms of going out and playing my shot.”The 32-year-old also added that he was willing to wait for the ball when the left-arm spinner Jack Leach was bowling, who was one of England's pick of the bowlers besides asserting that it was a knock where he wanted to consciously be more proactive as being diffident could have proven costly. “The first part of your question, it is satisfying to get some runs on board. Talking about my plans, it was important to be proactive, with the ball turning or keeping low. You had to make sure that it was never too late. You can’t be tentative about your shot selection. What helped me was the preparation I had before the game. All I wanted to focus was to get these things right, also look at the line that they are bowling." "There is a slight chance that you might get LBW. Otherwise, there isn’t much chance for the bowler to get your wicket. Those were the ideas and the thought. When Leach was bowling, it was important to wait till the ball came. We rotated the strike well as well.”Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | Have played around the world but winning the Chennai Test incomparable, insists Jofra Archer
By admin | | 0 Comments |

England's Jofra Archer tasted success in his very first Asia Test in India, which is rare, and the pacer has admitted that nothing compares to this win having played all around the world. He also termed the fifth day Chennai surface the worst he has seen, though he expected more fight from India.Winning in India remains the biggest challenge for Test teams in world cricket. No other team even comes close to India's crazy home record. They last lost a Test series in 2012/13 while, overall, they have only lost two Test series since the start of the century. In the last decade, Team India lost only three Tests at home. So, all these stats plus the high of winning Test series Down Under with a depleted side made Virat Kohli's men the topdogs to win the first Test against England. Unlike the Australia series, however, India didn't even show any fight let alone being in game to win. England were clinical enough throughout the game and never gave India a sniff for a fightback. Jofra Archer, who was crucial in England's first innings bowling efforts, taking two wickets in his opening spell, expressed his pleasure at winning the Chennai Test, a feeling and feat which he finds 'incomparable'. "I’ve played in tournaments around the world, and had success, but winning a Test is one of those indescribable feelings, especially against a really good team. Nothing compares," Archer wrote in his column for the Daily Mail, reported HT.There was a lot of hype around the Chepauk wicket. It was heavily criticized in 2016 when it hosted India and England for being excessively flat. But this time the newly appointed curator had promised that there will be sporting wicket with English looks that will support pace bowlers on first day, followed by two batting days and then the last two days in favor of spinners. On the contrary the first two days of the Test was akin to a graveyard for bowlers. There wasn't much carry on the wicket which was slow and turned tricky and unfavorable by the time India's first innings commenced on day three. Commenting on the surface, Archer stated that it was the 'worst surface' that he had seen. He also added that he didn't expect India to surrender so quickly on final day of the Test series opener. “On the fifth day, it was probably the worst surface I’ve seen — its orange colour, bits missing, rough patches for the bowlers to aim at. When we walked out in search of nine wickets on the fifth day, I was very hopeful we would complete the job — although these India players have big reputations and are at home, so should be able to cope with conditions better than anyone. So, I didn’t expect us to skittle them. Equally, I didn’t expect it to finish not long after afternoon drinks."India will take on England in second Test in Chennai again from Saturday onwards before the Caravan moves to Ahmedabad for the last two Tests of the series. At the moment, England have a lead of 1-0.  Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

Twitter reacts to Rishabh Pant’s immediate fall after Kohli’s piece of advise
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Virat Kohli is a world-class batsman. He was trying to help a young Rishabh Pant to counter James Anderson at his best having done that in the last few years. But much to his horror, the very next delivery the left-hander gets out leaving India in even more trouble with Anderson picking his third.Should have left him to play his natural game!A chat before the WKT made him to get out?? Pant jis ball or out hua ..Uske pahle kohli usko gyan Dene gya tha .. — Perpendicular (@Perpend92286456) February 9, 2021100% TRUE! The problem with Virat Kohli is that he always try to suggest player.... Let him play, don't give your input.... Pant is a player who look good only when he was given freedom to play shots — 1143Shiv (@shiv_1143) February 9, 2021He was looking fine with it! Pant was struggling with not playing his natural game against Anderson and ends up chipping a soft catch to Root. Kohli must be wondering what is going on at the other end... #INDvENG — Jonny (@Leathernwillow) February 9, 2021Platers like PANT should be given freedom! @vincentsunder if kohli wasn't there with pant ...Atleast he played his natural game ... Pant Helped Anderson 👍 — Shrikant Deshmukh(SRT_Fanatic) (@shrikantd31) February 9, 2021Hahahaha! Kohli not looking at Pant 😂😂😂 — Waqas. (@VickzTiwana) February 9, 2021Both weired & thinking too much! 😛 😛 Wicket se just pehle kohli and pant were talking. Next ball Pant is out. Twitter reacts to ‘epic’ confusion after bails get dislodged as if hit-wicket but it turns out as dead-ball
By admin | | 0 Comments |

It has been that sort of day for India. When Ishant Sharma was facing Jofra Archer with nine wickets down, it seemed as if he got out hit-wicket and England started celebrating. But replays indicted that Ishant had not dislodged the bails after which it was termed a dead-ball by the umpire. You can't see me!How did this happen???Can't belive this!  How did the bails just fall off? I've been waiting for a replay... — Stuart Lodge (@slodge) February 9, 2021 They've finished just in time for me to start work 🙂 Seen the bails blow off but never the stump pushed back as well! — Jonathan (@Jon_HullViking) February 9, 2021No idea on what happened here!  Wtf happened here! The bails didn't just fall the off stump moved back. #bbccricket #INDvENG pic.twitter.com/qdcp79gJRU — 4--Candles (@mickhtafc) February 9, 2021Hahaha! VIDEO | ‘Superman’ Root takes a flying left-handed blinder to send ‘shocked’ Rahane packing
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Joe Root. Chennai. This connection is turning special with passing time. After making a historic 218 in what is his 100th Test, he takes an absolute jaffa of a catch to help England with the wicket of India's Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane as India are reduced to 73 for 4 in a mini-collapse.English skipper Joe Root is having that sort of Test that whatever he touches turns into gold. This year he has been in maddening form. It is as if he wants to make up for all the wrongs he has done in the last couple of years. It is like he's answering each one of his critics who were questioning his batting, captaincy or status in fab four. So it is the 27th over. Ajinkya Rahane who has been in great form in the last few Test series comes out to the crease. India are still getting in terms with the fact that Virat Kohli who was averaging 344 against spinners in India since 2018 has got out to a rookie Dom Bess. But why panic when India's two specialist Test batsmen Pujara and Rahane are in the middle. Rahane likes to show his presence with positive intent at times. He advances to Dom Bess, takes the ball on the full. It looks like he has timed the ball well enough in first glance and it will go to the left of the fielder at cover. He has middled the ball after all. It is still in air though. But wait, what? The catch has been taken. The fielder at cover has made a full outstretched dive to his left to hand on to the ball with one hand and take a stunner of a catch. Rahane is still standing in disbelief. And it's Joe 'Superman' Root who has done it again. Is there anything he can't do this Test? English fielders are running towards him. There is joy all around. Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

Twitter reacts as Virat ‘disastrous’ Kohli takes two back-to-back horrendous reviews
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Kohli and DRS, it's a strange relationship. The more Virat goes closer to DRS, the more he fails. It's not a love-hate relationship but just one of failures and disappointment be it as captain or batsman. Coming up in age-rank, kids will be taught to do opposite of Kohli if they have to crack DRS.It was the 108th over. India were in a desperate situation. All the heroes of Australia series were getting mauled. Ravichandran Ashwin had been dealt with disdain. Shahbaz Nadeem, the less we talk about him the better it is. Ishant and Bumrah tried to put up a fight but to no avail. Anyways, getting back to the 108th over, on the fourth ball Ashwin's over, India could see a glimmer of hope. The hope of a wicket after no reward despite toil and hard work.In a bid to reverse-sweep Ashwin, the ball popped up in the air off Stokes' bat. Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant went for the catch. Yes, it was supposed to be a catch or else why would Pant go after it as if his life depended on it? It felt short and then Kohli reviewed for an LBW. But wasn't it supposed to be a catch and a catch comes off either bat or gloves? But Kohli interprets DRS in mysterious ways best known to him or the viewers were in for a surprise. But it turned out to be no surprise as the ball indeed hit the gloves and the review was busted. Not for the first time.Consistency is the key to success. Who knows it better than Kohli? Next over, there was another appeal as Nadeem was bowling to Root. This time it looked a little closer than the last one. And Kohli lives and thrives on hope. He went for the review again. But guess what, he just can't nail the DRS. The ball was missing the stumps and in two overs, India had lost two reviews and as Kohli's desperate attempts only resulted in wastage of reviews and god knows what Pant does behind the stumps to not assist Kohli in his misadventures. Here is how Twitter reacted: pic.twitter.com/SWP36KSHJh — Sandybatsman (@sandybatsman) February 6, 2021 pic.twitter.com/nQGH6a19ej — Sandybatsman (@sandybatsman) February 6, 2021 If Dhoni loses a DRS: Dhobi review system daw, mambati dawKohli loses DRS: A captain has to make tough calls~ pic.twitter.com/R40PfnIuMj — Gowtham (@Gowthamonnn) February 6, 2021So!!
